Cosplay Makeup Tutorial: Great Base for Beginners by Miahpt Cosplay Makeup Tutorial: Great Base for Beginners by Miahpt

:iconcosplayerezine:

This tutorial is a good customizable base that can be used to compliment most characters, specially characters from anime/manga.

You don't need to spend lots of money on make-up or have experience to do this tutorial.

Choose the colors, products and skip any step or suggestion you like, to suit your character!!!

Belongs to #CosplayerEzine! This is an adaption I did from my tutorial, now in English. I though it could be useful for new cosplayers who don't understand portuguese.

Please make sure you visit #CosplayerEzine or go to our website at www.cosplayerezine.net for more tutorials and cosplay related articles!

Some cosplayer friends gave me good reviews, so I decided to share it with the world! Sorry if there are any grammar mistakes and such.

Just a little question...I know the concealer is for pimples and such, but would it also work to hide freckles?

I have lots of marks beauty marks in my face too, that don't suit many cosplays, like moe type! They stay well hidden only with the foundation in my case, so if you apply it well and throughly with a color that blends with your skin tone it will work perfectly, because freckles aren't that dark. And I think that's all you need (just don't use a low quality foundation, it doesn't need to be expensive, with 14dolares you can buy a good one at sephora)

If you still aren't happy, or you have a very white skin, concealers for me are like magic, they fix anything so this step it's the most important. Just put a bit of concealer (just a bit) in the freckles you dislike and spread it with very very small circular movements carefully. You can smoodge just the outside of the concealer to.

Don't forget the powder, this will help the makeup to stick to your skin and hide the freckles even better. I hope I Answer your question.

Good tutorial! I just have a couple of questions, based on my personal experience with make up. Wouldn't you want to use a concealer and/or primer before you put on foundation? To help even the skin tone and make a more even pallet for the foundation.

Thank you so much! I'm not a professional at all I do makeup for fun! So I'll just answer from my experience, without any professional knowledge lol!

For me the concealer works better after the foundation for 2 reasons:

1st, my foundation it's very liquid! It's not expensive (it's from sephora they cost something like (10euros/14dolars)so if I apply my concealer before it will be washed out by my foundation and it won't stick to my skin so well, so the effect won't be so dramatic.

I like to have some freedom in spreading throughly the foundation without worrying if I'm taking away any concealer, because I think it's of the most important steps.

(I think if you have a really good and expensive foundation or concealer this kind of things won't happen at least as much, so fell free to ignore me lol)

the second reason is because I find it easier to see and fix flaws after a smooth base and it sticks better to my skin too, covers it better. When I'm doing cosplay I try the best to have my skin as even and perfect as I possibly can.

I hope I could answer any doubt you had, of course if your method works better for you and your skin type, and you like the result more continue to use it!!!

Sephora's foundation from my personal experience is one of the highest quality for the price you pay, considering here in the US they're considered to be one of the top make up stores/companies. I generally don't use concealer, just a primer that thankfully neutralizes most of my problem areas. I'll definitely try using putting concealer over my foundation sometime. Thanks for explaining it to me! :)

you're very welcome. I don't think the foundation it's bad at all! but I have seen the difference compared with the 60dolares foundation and the foundation from sephora it's a bit runny in comparison.

For me it's still perfect! But it has to be very well spread to work at it's best so that's because I chose to put the concealer after lol. If you know the foundation you should know what I'm talking about.

You're lucky if you don't need a concealer, mine was very cheap, it was 3euros from Kiko (5dolars) and it works perfectly, I advise you to buy one because it works wonderful for masking eyebrows for cosplay!

1) i love the touch of the blue eye makeup
2) might want to hide more hair next time

1)thank you so much for your comment. I think it's a great way and very easy to make the color of the eyes to pop.

2)I didn't try to hide my hair at all, I think it's easier (and better) to keep your face as free as possible with the help of hairpins, specially for people who aren't very experienced. To better apply the foundation and makeup without ruining the wig (and to paint my eyebrows). I don't like to have hair in the way so I only style it after!

(dont take this as rude, just as conversation).
Why not keep the wig off, and put it on after the makeup?

I put the wig for 2 reasons because the pictures would be prettier (this tutorial was for a magazine too) and because I do the makeup for my eyebrows to better match the hair color and I choose the colors and makeup I use as I go, with the wig on I can have a better perspective for the final result.

also I can be very clumsy when I put my wig on, really.

I don't find you rude at all don't worry. I'm just telling you my personal walk-trough, anyone can do as they want and think its easier!
